Google Moves Into Offline Television Advertising

The Web giant announced on that it is partnering with EchoStar Communications to sell commercials over the Dish satellite broadcaster’s 125 national programming networks, an early indicator of how the Internet giant plans to use its $10.6 billion online-ad business to conquer television. Under the EchoStar deal, advertisers will use Google’s AdWords automated auction interface to bid on ad spots. Advertisers can upload their TV commercials and select the desired time of day and channel, as well as choose regional or national area coverage. They can also target the ad based on a show’s demographics, such as males 18 to 34 years old, said Keval Desai, director of product management for Google TV Ads. Read more »

Google Agrees to Acquires Doubleclick

Google announced yesterday (13th March 2007) a definitive agreement to acquire DoubleClick Inc., a global leader in digital marketing technology and services, for $3.1 billion in cash from San Francisco-based private equity firm Hellman & Friedman along with JMI Equity and management. The acquisition will combine DoubleClick’s expertise in ad management technology for media buyers and sellers with Google’s leading advertising platform and publisher monetization services. Google Moving Into TV Advertising Ads

google logoThe official word from Google said they will run a trial of targeted video advertising with a couple of outlets: EchoStar, which operates the DISH Network, and Astound Cable, a small operation in Northern California.

Google earns 99 percent of its revenue from online advertising. Their contextual search products, and expansions into different advertising models like CPM and CPA, still rely on getting those ads in front of Internet users. Read more »

Viacom Filed Lawsuit Against Google Youtube

In the world of the Google Guys, generating huge news is something of a foregone conclusion. If it’s not a rocketing market cap or a billion-dollar buyout, then it’s a gigantic party plane that grabs them the headlines.

But for all of their jaw-dropping ways, Tuesday’s headlines were ones that they easily could have done without. High Growth for Google UK Advertising Revenue

Google’s UK advertising revenue has risen by 83 per cent, making the search engine second only to ITV as Britain’s highest advertising earner. In a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Google said that revenue from its UK advertisements had risen above $1.6 billion (£825 million) in 2006. That put it ahead of Channel 4, with just over £800 million. Read more »

Youtube Gets A Deal With BBC

In a move that seems to run contrary to recent trends, YouTube has actually come to an agreement with a major content provider. The BBC announced on Friday that it has struck a deal with the popular video-sharing site that will see the UK based broadcasting company share in advertising revenue generated by YouTube traffic. Google Buys Stake In Xunlei

Google has announced that it would purchase a small state in Chinese web site Xunlei.com. The company, located in Shenzen, allows users to download music and video from the Internet. Read more »
