Nokia Bets Big On WiMAX

nokia connecting peopleNokia is set to launch the first WiMAX capable mobile in 2008. The company is also ready to offer its services as a technology partner to Indian cellular operators wishing to set up WiMAX networks. Currently, Nokia has a portfolio of over 20 3G (third generation) handsets and now plans to make several handsets of the NSeries category capable of tapping into a WiMAX network for broadband Internet. Tablet devices such as Nokia N770 are expected to be among the first devices to support WiMAX.

Google Buys Stake In Xunlei

Google has announced that it would purchase a small state in Chinese web site Xunlei.com. The company, located in Shenzen, allows users to download music and video from the Internet. Read more »

Cisco Bets On China

Cisco’s latest moves in China include opening a Urumqi representative office and expanding the Shanghai research and development center. The Shanghai center will start with the telecom sector and expand to other areas in future. Built at a cost of $32 million, it is recruiting around 100 Chinese engineers to work better in the local market and cut costs. Read more »
